b.a.n.g. (bits atoms neurons genes) lab is an On-/Offline space at CAL IT2 (calit2.net) for MFA artists in the Visual Arts Department at UCSD to explore and present works at the edge of invisibility, at the edge of the digital and the biological, at the edge of micro-robotics and nano-art, from in-virtu to in-vivo works and back.
Current b.a.n.g. lab members include Ricardo Dominguez, Amy Sara Carroll, Brett Stalbaum, Micha Cárdenas , Elle Mehrmand and Chris Head.
On March 4th, 2010, the b.a.n.g. lab's server was taken offline by UCSD Network Security who claim that our virtual-sit-in against the UCOP.edu website was a DDOS attack. We disagree, seeing it as Electronic Civil Disobedience enacting political speech through distributed performance art involving thousands of online viewer/participant digital bodies.
The name in Exile was inspired by the New School in Exile (new website), a group of New School for Social Research students who were suspended for occupying parts of the school.
